ToyoShow History: 2008
1st, 2nd and 3rd of Feb 2008

ToyoShow 2008 set off in the heels of a very hot and growing show. Sean Bassford had completely stepped back from the organisation of the show, leaving ToyotaCarClub to run the show.

The lead up saw our new sponsor 'Hamra Homes' jump onboard when they saw the potential for this show to grow over the next few years. Adelaide Pro Sound had asked if they could provide a sound off at the event, to which we welcomed with open arms.

The lead up to the event saw a bad time for entrant forms - before christmas and have entrants forget, or just after and leave very little time. We went with option B, which in hindseight may not have been the best choice.

The cruise was the first event on the calender and it started off with awesome style - thanks to the Red Bull ladies and a very good cruise route. All entrants were asked to reset the trip meter to judge who got the closest to the km reading we had. (Didnt count for judging, was just a bit of fun).
The cruise took off right on time (7:30) and unlike previous years we had almost 100% attendance. The cars set off for Lobothel via some sweet roads. The cars returned to the Ferle car park approx 10:15PM where we set about getting the final odo readings. Due to the complexity the odo reading calculations were left till the Sunday for prizes to be awarded. We shall find a better way of doing this next year.

Saturday at Boostworx saw the usual Dyno show. The big 383 cube V8 taking the houners on the day even with bad detonation. The next was Adams 1988 Supra turboA, as with last year the 7M engine beating the 1JZ and 2JZ entrants. Thanks to Boostworx for a smooth day.

As I drove down to Wigley reserve for a 8:00 AM start I had rain hit the windscreen, my heart sank. I then proceeded to test my expolitives dictionary and my vocal copacitiy - Months of planning can be ruining by minutes of rain. Luckily the rain held off all day and most entrants didnt know it had rained that morning.
As the day began the food vans, sponsors and sound off all got ready for the long day ahead. George at Adelaide Pro Sound was one to find out that if something can go wrong, it will. George had brought his laptop down to run the sound off, but it wouldnt install the program required. He ended up bring the whole desktop PC down for the event! (And with time to spare).
As with previous events we were still taking a lot of entries on the day, and this was more evidence the entry forms were out too late. The SA Supra boys were first ones to be setup with the mechanics garage theme, and matching car plates across all members cars.
Durring the preperations I was trying to find the working sound meter for the loudest exhaust competition, which could not be found. As the event got the middle of the day it all seemed to be going well, everyone was settled in and sound off was cranking through the cars.
Approx 2PM the judging was finished and the collating begun - the announcer mistakenly said at this stage it was finished! eeek! Anyhow, some 1.5 hours later the results were in.

Damian Horton taking the most points for the show and shine, approx 30 points above Lesley Nadin - however Lesley had competed in all events and was eligable for ToyoChamp, Damian wasnt. (ToyoChamp must complete the cruise, dyno, sound off and show and shine).

Well done to Lesley for her overall Victory again in 2008.

Next year will be 50 years of the Toyota LandCruiser in Australia and the show will be a celebration of the LandCruiser. The judging is being reviewed also to see if we cant provide more 'enthusiast' awards.
