Judging Tips

The judges for ToyoShow are Street Machine Association judges, they are not ToyotaCarClub or ToyoShow related. However, they are very harsh and judge to near Summer Nats standards.

How do you score a car?
Each car will start with maximum points then have points deducted from the total. The judging is up to the judges and the judges word is final.

Why judge so harshly?
We would love to be able to send the best car from ToyoShow to Summer Nats to compete, and represent Toyotas in SA. This cant happen while our cars are judged at a low level. You can opt not to be judged if you feel your car is not up to the standard required.

What do they check for?
The main thing is a clean car. The reason is simple, a clean car is a well loved after car. However, there are some additions to this;
First Aid Kit - these will improve you score as they are a good idea for everyone
Fire Extinguisher - If you've ever had a car go up in flames you'd agree these are a must, and they are cheap these days
It's also worth noting that the judges WILL check under the cars. They have been known to stick thier hands in to the engine bay to check under engine components - the alternator for instance. An underside steam clean is a great idea... ;)

What not to do
Car seat covers, steering wheels cover, floor matts (factory or otherwise) will all loose you points. The reason is simple, the judges are not supposed to move anything in standard competition (not so strict with our cars) but when they see a cover they assume it's hiding some flaw and give that area 0. If you take the covers out and that area is terribly worn you still might get SOME score.

One to rule them all!
To really stand out you need to go to extra effort. As most entrants will know; good show cars have carpet or cloth under them (some times mirrors to show the clean underside), some have borders and some have themes (most notably is Phantom from last years show). These put you in front of the competition but make sure to have a clean car before going to this much effort or it will be a waste!

I hope this helps you score the most you can!
