ToyoShow History

ToyoShow was started in 2005, and had it's first show in the follow Feburary of 2006.

In 2006 the show was run and organised single handed by Sean Bassford, whom I'm sure a lot of a car enthusiasts will know for his Imaculate Toyota Celica 'Bluewire'. The car 'bluewire' has taken Sean to many car shows, including Summer Nats where hes collected many awards for his display.

Taking that knowledge and putting it to work was a big job. In 2006 the show was staged at the birdwood car museum, where it held approx 44 cars and took approx 200 paid spectators. It was a great day, for entrants and spectators, but it was just the begining.

In the planning for 2007 the show was relocated to Wigley Reserve in Glenelg, to take the show more accessable and to really get back to the main reason for the show - to show off the clubs, and try get more people into the car clubs represented at the show. As such, there was no spectator charge, to try encourage more spectators, more sponsors, food stalls, every part making the show bigger, better.

In terms of planning the ToyotaCarClub.net started to help out, rather than Sean doing everything himself, and also saw the improvements right from day 1, with the supercruise. Dominic Smart was credited with an awesome cruise layout, involving 3 tier cruise which took entrants from Northern beachs, to city, right the way through to southern beaches and then a spirited run through the Adelaide hills.

Saturday saw the first time running of the Dyno Day at Boostworx Performance Engineering, and although only 18 entrants for the dyno it was still a great day that can only be improved.

The show and shine kicked off for a bright and (way too) early Sunday. With cars from all the local clubs setting early to get a good spot, it was set to be a great show. Unfortunately it was 42° but hey, cant blame us for that! The loudest exhaust was taken out by Adrian from the Classic Celica Car Club, while the overall winner was Lesley Nadin from the Rollaclub with her very nicely presented, extremely rare, turbo charged Corolla.

While we can look back and see how good the shows of past have been, we prefer to think how we can make it better. As such, this year will feature a Sound Off competition and also be the first year for the ToyoChamp perpetual trophy (53cm gold trophy, it's awesome.)

I hope to see everyone at ToyoShow 2008!!
